for an oridinary user, you may have found out about that site by accident. Then you read the articles, they seem to be fine. and they have the addictive function “edit” right on each article page. So you click on edit, bingo, now you are editing an encyclopedia, wow, doesn’t that give you an instant sense of accomplishment and grandiose feeling? After all, most of the users are just common people, now all of sudden, according to the name that wikipedia uses, you are an “editor.” And you don’t need any formal eductation in order to be an editor on wikipedia. A little 7-years-old kid can edit that encyclopedia as well. Just go to other web sites, and find out about that particular topic, then just re-write them on wikipedia. there you have it, you are an important online encyclopedia editor.
Once you start, how can you stop? After all, you must know something that other people don’t know. Since you wrote the article, so you want to add external links. And you can add internal links to other pages, too. Well, so you add internal links to other articles, now what have you done? Of course, you want to check out what others wrote in those articles. No article is perfect, so you start to edit other articles, add links, add pictures. And if you know another language, of course, you want to help out. So you click on the link which will lead you to the other language page with the same article. Hey, there are lots of mistakes, or the article is missing something. And you know you can help, so you start to edit that article.
By the time, you finish one article, you realize time flies. It is time for bed already. Since you worked so hard on those articles, you want to make sure that they stay in the same, So the next day, you want to go on that site again. This time, you are looking for new information, you just want to know if your articles are still there and well. now what is going happen, what if someone changed what you wrote the day before? and you feel that s/he is so wrong. You must change it back to keep this encyclopedia as accurate as it can be. So you start to revert. of course, the other users feel the same way, they want to keep what they wrote. now an editing war starts. Ya, since you are an “editor” of an “encyclopedia,” therefore, it is an “editing” war. Then what is going to happen. Either you give up, or the other person give up, or those obsessive compulsive disorder administrators ban one of you.
Now the other person or you are totally pissed off. so they go online again, try to edit the same article again. then those OCD administrators get pissed because they have to revert and revert. Finally, they decide to lock that article due to “vandalism.” Now both of you get pissed at the OCD administrators, because you can’t edit any more. Now what are you gonna do? So you see, wikipedia does nothing good, but to help you to form a new addiction. So do yourself a favor, never use it, and never edit it. Think it this way, only nerds like to site in front of the computer and edit a boring encyclopedia. Sure they have millions of articles, but how many people actually read those articles? You spend your valuable time editing articles, in the end, no one really reads them. So why bother. You could have used those time to relax, have some real fun with real peole. Let those obsessive compulsive disorder administrators abuse their crazy silly powers, you yourself have a good life to enjoy.
It is like a black hole, it sucks you in. You can never get out of it. It is evil with all those OCD administrators who get high by pissing people off.
